Summary: | Without knowledge regarding Cyrus' faction, it is difficult to assess properly what his status among the Persians was and how strong his position was during the rebellion. The evidence very often allows us to reach quite divergent conclusions. Here, Glogowski discusses several aspects of the Persian faction of Cyrus the Younger and his position among the Persian nobility. Although the evidence is, indeed, very limited and dispersed, it cannot be ignored. Every case, when the sources record Cyrus' dealings with the Persians, deserves a close look and comprehensive examination. On a number of occasions Xenophon mentions events that can provide insight into the relations between Cyrus and the Persians. By adopting this perspective, it should be possible to shed some light on the position of Cyrus and the nature of his rebellion. |
