Description
Summary:Meropenem (MEPM) was administered to 16 patients with chronic complicated urinary tract infection (UTI) at a dose of 0.5-1g b. i. d. for 5 days, and its clinical efficacy and safety were evaluated. 1) Clinical efficacy was evaluated according to the criteria of the Japanese UTI Committee. The clinical response in 16 patients with chronic complicated UTI was moderate in 10 and poor in 6, the overall efficacy rate being 63%. Bacteriologically, 21 (88%) of 24 strains were eradicated. 2) Eruption was observed in two patients. No abnormal changes in laboratory examinations were observed. 3) From the above results, we consider that MEPM is a useful and safe antibiotic for chronic complicated UTI.
