The conflict of power between the USSR & Jugoslavia has been presented as an ideological one; one which has been an incitement to the Jugoslav leaders to develop their own independent interpretations & applications of Marxism. Diff's arise from the charge that the Jugoslavs have given up the theory & practice of the dictatorship of the proletariat & the view concerning the withering away of the State, from controversy over the rise of surplus value in a socialist society, & from official att's towards art & freedom of expression. A fresh approach to the dogma of the inevitable downfall of capitalism has been a feature of Jugoslav thought. Ironically, the power-conflict that has led to innovations & developments of Marxist thought have provided indications of the vitality of the Marxist thesis on the relationship between ideology & practice.
