Abstract Currently, electric vehicles (EVs) present a promising solution to environmental and energy challenges. But their conventional power chain still has limitations on their performance. This paper proposes a new structure based on an open-end winding induction motor fed by a dual inverter. The aim of this work is to develop a reliable mathematical model of the new power chain and its control strategy in MATLAB/Simulink and carry out an experimental validation of this structure on a laboratory set-up using the dSPACE 1104 board. The simulation and experimental results obtained demonstrate the reliability of the model and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
