Summary: | During compression in the cylinder of a reciprocating pump, the effective bulk modulus of the fluid is reduced due to the presence of entrained air. The effective bulk modulus can be determined by tuning the air to liquid ratio. The torque required at the input to the pump is a function of the system pressure. Hence, deterioration in the pump characteristics can be detected through torque analysis in a nonintrusive approach. This work presents the required torque model and relates the system deterioration to the specific changes in torque input for condition monitoring and diagnostics. |
