Ultrafast laser inscription of low loss waveguides in polycrystalline ZnSe

We describe the fabrication of optical waveguides in polycrystalline ZnSe using ultrafast laser inscription. The optimum waveguide, characterized at 800 nm, exhibited a propagation loss of 0.5 dB·cm -1 .
