Description
Summary:Objective: to evaluate the adherence of dental surgeons (DCs) to the new biosafety regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and analyze the consequent financial impact. Methods: cross-sectional study, carried out with CDs from Brazil, using an electronic, semi-structured, self-reported and validated questionnaire. Results: there was a high level of adherence to personal protective equipment during critical periods of the pandemic. Most developing countries reported an increase in the amount of biological waste (70%), did not change the apron for each treated patient (41.5%), had financial losses (61%), which were more significant for women. The increase in the cost of biosafety material was associated with adherence to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health (MS) (p<0.021). It is worrying that 98.5% of CDs do not carefully follow these guidelines (p<0.001). Conclusion: COVID-19 required the incorporation of important biosafety measures, increasing the cost in the dental office, which was directly reflected in the CDs' adherence to the MS guidelines. Keywords: Dentistry. COVID-19. Biosecurity. Pandemics.
