Summary: | An account of the political aftermath of the Aberfan disaster of 1966. Although the National Coal Board was clearly responsible, no one was held accountable and the disaster fund was not used as the Aberfan community wished. Information gleaned from government papers released under the thirty years' rule confirmed the Welsh people's bitterness and sense of being peripheral to Britain and the Labour Party. Victims of later disasters continue to struggle for justice in the face of apparent indifference on the part of government and the law. |
