Summary:Acute esophageal necrosis, or black esophagus, is a rare syndrome affecting sick elderly patients, with high mortality rate. Its clinical expression is gastrointestinal bleeding. Treatment includes hemodynamic support, nil-per-os, proton pump inhibitors and management of the coexisting clinical conditions.
