Nutritional surveillance of children under two years of the municipality of redemption, Ceará: the importance of diagnosis for planning of public policies in this age groupDisorders in health and nutrition in children interfere with growth and development, generating losses in the short and long term. For this reason, growth monitoring is critical at this stage of life. This study aimed to analyze the nutritional status of children under two years and the associated factors with focus on health surveillance model. The study was cross-sectional, exploratory and involved 360 children under two years statistically selected. Overweight and obesity were found in 19.8% and 20.0% of children, as index Weight/Height and BMI/Age respectively. Malnutrition was low at 1.4% and 0.3%, according to indicators Weight/Age and BMI/Age respectively. The height deficiency was found in 9.8% of children. Only the variables average household income (OR: 2.157; 95% CI: 1.088 to 4.279), early introduction of complementary foods (OR: 1.649; 95% CI: 1.010 to 2.691) and adding sugar or honey in child nutrition showed statistically significant association with nutritional status risk. The results show that the main nutritional disorders in children in the municipality are overweight and chronic malnutrition, indicating a nutritional transition scenario and pointing out the need to strengthen surveillance actions food and nutrition and the effectiveness of health programs and policies and nutrition.
