Summary: | Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a benign and unusual tumor derived from odontogenic ectomesenchyme. A 27-year-old woman had an asymptomatic endophytic lesion on the hard palate (between the vital #24 and 25 teeth), measuring 1 cm and with indeterminate evolution time. We observed at oral exam the absence of dental mobility, signs of infection, and inflammation. Radiographically, there was a hypodense image, with divergence between the roots of teeth #24 and 25, bone resorption on the vestibular, and palatine surfaces. The clinical-radiographic diagnosis of lateral periodontal cyst was established, and an excisional biopsy was performed in association with local bone curettage. Microscopically, a densely collagenated stroma containing fusiform cells and odontogenic epithelial cells arranged in cords and nests was observed, characterizing the epithelium-rich variant according to the World Health Organization in 2017. No postoperative complications have been reported, and 1 month after surgery, the patient is followed up without recurrence. |
