Summary: | Intramuscular hemangioma is a rare form of vascular lesion that represents less than 1% of all types of hemangiomas. Our objective is to report a case of intramuscular hemangioma on the left side of the lower lip mucosa extending to buccal mucosa in a 65-year-old female patient. A painless sessile nodule with soft consistency and smooth surface measuring approximately 2.5 × 1.0 cm was noted, and the clinical hypothesis was pleomorphic adenoma or a lipoma. Before an incisional biopsy, a fine needle aspiration was performed, presenting aspects of a soft tissue lesion. After biopsy, the diagnosis of hemangioma was established. Intralesional sclerotherapy with ethanolamine oleate diluted 1:1 in anesthetic solution was initiated, and a total remission was observed after 6 applications. After 1.5 years, the lesion recurred, and an excisional biopsy was performed. The histopathologic analysis established the diagnosis of intramuscular hemangioma. No recurrence was seen after 11 months of follow-up. |
