Description
Summary:To assess the level of satisfaction and quality of life of caregivers of patients with special needs (PSN). This was a methodological, observational, and cross-sectional study. The Quality Improvement and Access Program (PMAQ) and the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaires were applied to PSNs and caregivers. The PMAQ questionnaire was applied to 31 patients or caregivers, of whom 61% used public transportation to reach the dental support clinic (DSC) and 90% attributed a score of 10 to the dentist who sees them. The WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was applied to 20 caregivers, of whom 60% considered their life to be good. Correlation tests (Pearson's coefficient) showed a statistically significant correlation between the physical and psychological domains (r = 0.64, P = .02), the psychological and social domains (r = 0.48, P = .033); and the psychological and environment domains (r = 0.80, P < .001). It was found that caregivers and PSNs were satisfied with the specialized oral health service. Regarding the quality of life of caregivers, the majority stated they had a good quality of life, despite not having the opportunity to participate in leisure-oriented activities.
