LEUKOPLAKIA DISSEMINATED IN THE ORAL CAVITY OF A GERIATRIC PATIENT: CASE REPORT

The leukoplakia is described as a white plaque or spot that cannot be pathologically defined or clinically without no other disease. The aim of this study is to report a case of a 76-year-old male patient with leukoderma who smokes for more than 50 years, from the countryside, and illiterate. His main complaint: "My dental prosthesis is loose." The extraoral exam showed white plaques on the higher and bottom lip region; intraorally, the patient presented injuries of painless white plaques, widespread on the mouth. The clinical diagnosis was leukoplakia. An incisional biopsy was done, and microscopic observation showed mucosa pieces coated by hyperkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium, prominent granular layer, areas of atrophy, and gout projections of the basal coat, confirming the leukoplakia. The clinical dentist should be prepared to the correct diagnosis and clarity in the monitoring of this pathology, to present the potential for malignancy.
