Description
Summary:Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negative bacterium that can be part of normal skin microbiota and is the cause of a variety of human infections. This study reports a case of suppurative face infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A 56-year-old female patient with diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension attended the outpatient clinic of the Clériston Andrade General Hospital in Brazil, with an abscess in the zygomatic and peri-orbital region. Complementary culture and antibiogram exams highlighted the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in the purulent exudate, sensitive to medications of the carbapenem and quinolone classes meropenem and ciprofloxacin, respectively. The patient underwent debridement and drainage of edema, as well as specific antibiotic therapy by the beta-lactam meropenem and remained in follow-up for 3 months. It was possible to obtain success in treatment of the case with the steps instituted, which corroborates the importance of using complementary exams to define a diagnosis.
