Follicle-stimulating hormone regulation of ovarian transcripts for steroidogenesis-related proteins and cell survival, growth and differentiation factors in vitro during early secondary oocyte growth in coho salmon

Research highlights ► FSH increased testosterone and estradiol production in early secondary growth ovarian follicles of coho salmon. ► FSH upregulated ovarian steroidogenesis-related protein mRNAs, star and hsd3b , while aromatase ( cyp19a1a ) mRNA was unaffected by FSH. ► FSH affected mRNA levels...

Description
Summary:Research highlights ► FSH increased testosterone and estradiol production in early secondary growth ovarian follicles of coho salmon. ► FSH upregulated ovarian steroidogenesis-related protein mRNAs, star and hsd3b , while aromatase ( cyp19a1a ) mRNA was unaffected by FSH. ► FSH affected mRNA levels for the gonadotropin receptors and specific insulin-like and transforming growth factor family genes. ► Provides evidence that FSH functions in ovarian steroidogenesis and cell survival, growth and differentiation during early secondary oocyte growth in teleosts.
