The total and exchangeable concentrations of twelve elements in the growth soils and their distribution in the roots, potato bulb and leaves of the plants grown under four different settings were compared. Elemental uptake and distribution of selected macro, micro and toxic elements in roots, potato bulk and leaves in African potato plant were investigated. The impact of the soil quality on elemental uptake by the African potato plant grown under different soil conditions was assessed. The African potato displayed a clear tendency of accumulation of selected elements on leaves and roots despite their low bioavailability, which was reflected by high Bf values and concentration in each part. The higher the bioavailability in the soil, the higher the concentration of most of the investigated elements, except for Zn, and Mg was found. The main part of the plant retained high Ca, Ng and Zn and arsenic in small quantities, but showed no trends of accumulation of other toxic elements.
