Abstract | A simple and rapid method for the determination of sulfur in steel, which consisted of sample decomposition in boiling 4 M hydrochloric acid, a reaction of the evolved H sulfide with a lead (II) acetate-impregnated paper tape and a reflectance measurement of the tape coloration was reported earlier. Although the method proved to be applicable to the determination of 3-10 mu g of S, a problem remained unsolved. The analytical values obtained by using a calibration curve prepared with continuous flows of standard H sulfide gases (diluted with nitrogen) were appreciably higher than those obtained by using a calibration curve prepared with standard-steel samples. Accordingly, a further investigation has been carried out to clarify this discrepancy and, thus, to establish a more reliable analytical procedure. |
