Description
Summary:The comparative study of different media used for cultivation of Flavobacterium psychrophilum showed that tryptone–yeast extract–salts supplemented with glucose, named FLP medium, was the most appropriate for the growth of this fish pathogen. By means of the endpoint dilution method, it was found that the bacterium grew more efficiently on the improved FLP medium than on the other four solid media assayed. This medium was also the most effective for the recovery of the pathogen from tissues of diseased fish. Culture of F. psychrophilum in FLP broth was also more rapid and provided high cell yields. In addition, FLP is a low-cost and easy-to-prepare medium.
