Summary:A convenient and efficient methodology for the synthesis of new C-3 sulfur-substituted indoles under CeCl3·7H2O promotion is reported. Model bis(indol-3-yl)sulfide 4a and bis(indol-3-yl)sulfone 5a proved to display potent antioxidant activity at the low micromolar level, in DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays, as well as in the inhibition of the peroxidation of linoleic acid.
