Description
Summary:To investigate plasma viscosity, a hemorheologic variable, in oligomenorrheic and eumenorrheic hirsute women.Descriptive study. Endocrinology and metabolism clinic. Twenty five hirsute women with oligomenorrhea and eumenorrhea and 30 age- and weight-matched healthy, eumenorrheic, nonhirsute women. Plasma viscosity. Plasma viscosity was significantly elevated in hirsute women compared with eumenorrheic nonhirsute women. Significant correlations were observed between plasma viscosity and fasting insulin level, cholesterol level, and diastolic blood pressure. Hirsute women with oligomenorrhea or eumenorrhea had a significantly elevated plasma viscosity compared with healthy controls.
