Description
Summary:In this paper, we review the genes from budding yeast whose expression is restricted to defined periods of the cell cycle. We discuss the mechanism by which genes are rendered sensitive to cues in the cell cycle through a consideration of the upstream regulatory sequences of cell cycle-regulated genes and of the proteins involved in recognizing these sequences. We emphasize the single example, the HO gene, for which the regulatory circuit leading to cell cycle-specific gene expression has been defined both genetically and biochemically.
