Summary: | Resilience is a dynamic process, with complex features and social and cultural implications, that relates to the capacity of an individual to overcome adverse life situations by showing particular strength. The first references to resilience stem from the 1970s within the field of child psychology and a new approach led by Michael Rutter and John Bowlby. Subsequently, Boris Cyrulnik, who focused on the attachment theory promoted by his colleagues, pointed out that resilience is not only about the development of resistance in the face of adversity, but also the creativity to generate a new development out of the trauma generated by that adversity. The initial concept of resilience as a particular characteristic and behavior of certain individuals gave way to a broader view. First, there was a change in the interpretation of resilience from a quality to an ability that can be developed from the exercise of certain habits. At the same time, this concept can be taken beyond psychology in order to apply it to the social, ecology, culture, technology fields and even to the practice of law. |
