Tuning the solubility of polymerized ionic liquids by simple anion-exchange reactions

The synthesis and radical polymerization of ionic liquids based on 1‐vinyl imidiazole are described that led to a new family of poly(1‐vinyl‐3‐alkyl‐imidazolium) halides. Description
Summary:The synthesis and radical polymerization of ionic liquids based on 1‐vinyl imidiazole are described that led to a new family of poly(1‐vinyl‐3‐alkyl‐imidazolium) halides. Interestingly, the solubility of these polymers is easily tuned by a simple anion‐exchange reaction. With this method new polyelectrolytes soluble in a variety of organic solvents such as acetone, 2‐butanone, and tetrahydrofuran are easily prepared.
