Summary:The properties, phase composition, and structure of Al2O3-TiO2 refractory granular ceramics are reported. Additional heat treatment provided conditions for generating nanocrystal growth and increased the ceramic strength significantly. A dispersion-strengthening mechanism for refractory ceramics is proposed. The newly developed materials can be used for protection from mechanical impact loading. 8 refs.
