Forbidden transitions to atomic Rydberg states in optical collisions

The first observation of forbidden atomic absorptions to Rydberg final states in laser-assisted single-collision processes is reported. These free-free transitions, which occur at unusually low laser power densities, are characterized by narrow absorption line widths. (Author)
