Description
Summary:Studies are reported on the fate of 2 weedkillers, cyanazine and metolachlor, following 2 and 3 applications, respectively, to a clay loam soil during a 3-year period. Tabulated data are included on precipitation and mean temperatures during the study period, the disappearance of the 2 compounds from the upper layers of the soil, the removal of the 2 compounds in tile drainage waters, the concentrations in groundwater, and the disappearance and dissipation of the 2 compounds. The results indicated that cyanazine degraded rapidly in situ, with no measurable losses via tile drainage. Metolachlor degraded more slowly, persisting to the next growing season, and there was some leaching to groundwater and some losses via tile drainage and surface run-off.
