Summary:The following guidelines present an alternative, by using humans, to the patch test on rabbits for assessment of the skin irritation potential of cosmetic-finished products. The guidelines were developed by a Task Force of COLIPA, the European Federation of national cosmetic, toiletry and perfumery associations. The guidelines have been discussed with (and amended to take account of comments from) European dermatologists.
