Summary:	Emergencies of the female reproductive tract are common in small animal practice. The veterinarian must be familiar with normal and abnormal reproductive behaviors, as well as medical and surgical options available. Emergencies of the reproductive tract can be life-threatening for both dam and off-spring, requiring rapid diagnosis and assessment as well as aggressive treatment. With effective management, most of these conditions warrant a good prognosis.
