Description
Summary:This article deals with the need for the study of specific technical features of old buildings and constructions for the sake of their conservation and maintenance. Reinforced concrete constructions built in Russia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are chosen as the field of investigation. In this connection some features of the early stage of reinforced concrete application in Russian engineering are surveyed along with the analysis of the most frequent technical faults and the most frequent causes of failure. The need for such analysis is illustrated with some examples from recent survey practice.
