Description
Summary:Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiment was performed on Zircaloy-4 (Zry-4) and Zircaloy-2 (Zry-2) as-received, β-quenched and β-annealed. The existence of the very small precipitates with 10 nm Ø in Zry-4 which has not been discussed in literatures but was predicted from the magnetic study was confirmed. The same small precipitates in Zry-2 as in Zry-4, which could not be derived from the magnetic study because of non-magnetic properties of the responsible precipitates, were also elucidated to exist by SAXS measurement, α-annealing of Zry-4 as-received was confirmed by SAXS to bring in the disappearance of or decrease in the small precipitates, corresponding to the growth of precipitates of micron or submicron sizes which is observed by the usual metallurgical methods.
