Oxidation of Primary Amines to Nitriles Catalyzed by Polystyrene-stabilized Ru Nanoparticles in Water

Primary amines were successfully oxidized to nitriles in water under mild reaction conditions in the presence of polystyrene (PS)-stabilized Ru(III) nanoparticles (PS-Ru(III)NPs) using O2 as an oxidant. Description
Summary:Primary amines were successfully oxidized to nitriles in water under mild reaction conditions in the presence of polystyrene (PS)-stabilized Ru(III) nanoparticles (PS-Ru(III)NPs) using O2 as an oxidant. The valence of Ru is important for the reaction to proceed, which occurs on the surface of the NPs. Steric hindrance did not retard the reaction, and the alkyl amine was allowed to oxidize.
