Description
Summary:The authors report on a case of arterial embolism caused by bone entrapment of the popliteal artery due to a protrusion of a hydroxyl-apatite wedge. The wedge had been placed 4 years earlier during the course of a valgus osteotomy procedure. Thrombolytic therapy was performed, and the wedge was removed. Because causes for arterial embolism vary, the knowledge of its underlying mechanism is necessary to avoid recurring events. Bone entrapment after knee surgery is a differential diagnosis that should be taken into account, even years after surgery.
