The aim of this study was to develop a qualitative screening method for the detection of substances with pharmacological properties: stimulants, anorectic and diuretics in dietary supplement samples. A spectral database, using the following analytical techniques: molecular absorption spectroscopy in the UV and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) regions, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS), was created to compare the chromatograms of the samples and the standards searched. Two columns were tested, Ace ® and Phenomenex ® , and the result was compared for the screening methods developed separately for each column. The Phenomenex ® column was chosen for the sample analysis using HPLC–DAD.
