Description
Summary:The problem of propagation of an ultimately short optical pulse in a medium of carbon nanotubes exhibiting nonlinear absorption and gain is analyzed. Nonlinear absorption is described phenomenologically based on data available in literature. The regime in which the gain coefficient exceeds the linear-absorption coefficient is investigated. This regime is also described phenomenologically. An ultimately short optical pulse itself is described by using Maxwell’s equations with a microscopically calculated dependence of current on the pulse field. The possibility of efficient generation of high harmonics that were initially absent in the pulse is demonstrated.
