Summary:(E)- and (Z)-1,2-Difluoro-1-iodoalkenes and (E)- and (Z)-α,β-difluoro-β-iodostyrenes give the corresponding esters in the presence of catalytic Cl 2Pd(PPh 3) 2, alcohol, trialkylamine, and carbon monoxide (80–180 psi) under mild conditions in excellent yields with retention of configuration. The title compounds (R=alkyl, aryl) undergo palladium-catalyzed carboalkoxylation in excellent yields with complete retention of configuration.
