Description
Summary:The present study mainly aspires for assessing the damping characteristics of the nickel electrodeposited A356.2 alloy. Surface modification of the base A356.2 alloy is carried out through nickel electrodeposition by employing a customary stirred watts bath. The damping behaviour of both nickel plated and un-plated aluminium alloy is studied using a dynamic mechanical analyzer (Perkin Elmer-DMA 8000) at three dissimilar frequencies viz. 1, 5 and 10 Hz over a continuous temperature oscillating from the ambient temperature to 150 °C. Nickel plating surface morphology is investigated by employing a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The nickel plated specimen’s showcased elevated damping capacities irrespective to the increasing frequencies and temperatures in comparison with the un-plated alloy test specimens. The associated methodologies are reviewed.
