Description
Summary:The influence of microstructure and mechanical properties of low carbon steel by cold and cryo rolling have been investigated in the present work. Low carbon steel was rolled at 50% thickness reduction at room temperature and cryogenic temperature and its microstructure and mechanical properties were studied. All the samples showed severely deformed grains, which were elongated along the rolling direction. Cryorolled low carbon steel showed the finest crystallite size compared to the cold rolled low carbon steel with average crystallite size of 25.42 nm. The mechanical properties like hardness and tensile strength of cryorolled were improved compared with the cold rolled sample. This was because of higher dislocation density accumulation during lower temperature rolling. Cryorolled sample has higher hardness and tensile strength with improvement of 23.6% and 27.2% compared with cold rolled low carbon steel.
