Description
Summary:The RCu9In2 intermetallics with R=La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu have been synthesized and characterized with regards to their crystal structure as well as magnetic and thermal properties. The compounds have tetragonal structure of the YNi9In2-type (space group P4/mbm). Except for LaCu8.25In2.75, they exhibit localized magnetism due to the presence of magnetic moments on the respective trivalent rare-earth ions. The Nd-, Sm- and Eu- based compounds order antiferromagnetically below 4.6, 11.0 and 23.2K, respectively. •Physical properties of RCu9In2 (R=La–Nd, Sm, Eu) are reported for the first time.•The compounds crystallize in the tetragonal YNi9In2-type structure.•Except for LaCu8.25In2.75, they exhibit localized magnetism.•The Nd-, Sm- and Eu- based compounds order antiferromagnetically at low temperatures.
