Description
Summary:AbstactA new labrid fish, Cirrhilabrus katoi, is described on the basis of two specimens from Hachijo-jima Island, Izu Islands, and Kashiwa-jima Island, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. The new species resembles C. jordani Snyder, 1904, which is endemic to Hawaii, in general appearance, especially in vertical fin morphology. However, C. katoi is easily distinguished from C. jordani in having long pelvic fins (not elongated in C. jordani), two rows of cheek scales below the eye (one row), and distinct marks on the head, body and fins (no marks).
