Summary: | A two-stage magnetic pulse compressor (MPC) is designed to reset its magnetic switches (MSs) without external reset circuits. Two MSs sharing one magnetic core are proposed to use the entire path on the hysteresis curve without resetting procedure. The current at the first stage of the MPC resets the second MS and the current at the second stage of the MPC resets the first MS. The two-stage MPC system is operated with the frequency ranges from 1 to 10 kHz, in order to verify the self-resetting operation of the proposed MS. Applying 1-kV voltage to the first capacitor, the output voltage and current at the load are about 0.6 kV and above 40 A, respectively. As a result, proposed MSs of the MPC system well perform a reset function without any reset circuits. Due to the reset operation of the MSs, its operational time is not only constant but also the frequency of the output current at the load is constant. The proposed model can realize both the miniaturization of MSs and high duty cycle operation. |
