Effect of rare earth ions on the structural parameters of modified PLnZT ceramics (5/65/35)

Description
Summary:The structural parameters of PZT ceramics modified by rare earth ions were examined. The results obtained show that PLZT, PGZT and PYZT were found in the rhombohedral phase; while PCeZt, PNZT, PSZT and PEZT were found in the tetragonal phase. Lattice unit cell volume decreased with decreasing ionic radii of the rare earths. It was also observed that lattice distortion increased with decreasing ionic radii, except for Yb. The results are discussed in the light of the electronic configuration of rare earths. It is concluded that the electronic configuration of rare earth ions also plays an important role in the structural properties of PLnZT ceramics, along with some other factors. 23 refs.
