Description
Summary:The indigenous lands (ILs) from the Brazilian Amazon are in constant threat, especially regarding deforestation. This research aims to assess whether deforestation occurring outside ILs, in their Area of Direct Influence (ADI), influences the removal of vegetation within their areas, in the period from 1988 to 2021. We applied a log–log linear regression with deforestation data obtained by remote sensing. The results revealed that deforestation in the ADI was approximately eight times higher than deforestation inside the ILs. Additionally, deforestation inside the ILs grows at a 2/1 ratio, that is, a 1% increase in deforestation outside of the ILs can increase by about 0.47% the deforestation inside of them.
