Description
Summary:The results of identification of photolysis products of air-saturated aqueous solutions of Na 2 S 2 O 3 irradiated with a KrCl excimer lamp are presented. Using spectrophotometry, HPLC, IR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry, it has been shown that intermediate photolysis products are colloidal sulfur and tetrathionate and pentathionate ions, which photodegrade to form sulfur, sulfate ions, and hydrogen sulfide during further UV irradiation involving atmospheric oxygen and solvent molecules. Reactions for the formation of detected photolysis products have been proposed.
