Summary: | We report a crystal growth method of lead vanado-chlorapatite (vanadinite) Pb5(VO4)3Cl single crystals using a CsCl flux. X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, and infrared spectroscopy characterized the crystals obtained in this study. We obtained only high-quality vanadinite single crystal phase from a two-step synthesis procedure. The as-grown single crystals with well-developed hexagonal prismatic shapes were as large as 6 mm. The crystals have an ideal chemical formula with highly homogeneous composition. Crystals grown from the CsCl flux contain no Cs impurities within the detection limit of EPMA. These results indicate that CsCl flux is a promising candidate for flux growth of single crystals in pyromorphite series. |
