Description
Summary:Extract of Terminalia avicennioides root were evaluated for anthelmintic activity in experimental nippostrongylosis of rats. The extracts, obtained by solvent partitioning of a crude methanol extract of T. avicennioides, were given orally for three days to rats purposely infected with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis orally. Anthelmintic activity was assessed by comparing the number of worms recovered from treated rats with those recovered from infected rats not treated with T. avicennioides extract. The butanol, but not aqueous methanol, chloroform or petroleum ether extracts, produced a significant (P > 0.05), dose dependent deparasitization.
