| Abstract | [...] self-proclaimed liberals, leftists, and progressives who readily denounce racism, economic inequities, environmental degradation, sexism, and homophobia at home and are quick to criticize wars, imperialism, globalization, and U.S. support of corrupt regimes elsewhere respond to indigenous issues within the U.S.- claimed boundaries with a stunning silence. According to the very legal system upon which the United States relies for its legitimacy, and upon which it bases its claim-according to Justice John Marshall-to be "a government of laws, and not of men" (Marbury v. Madison, 163), the claims made by the United States to the homeland are unsustainable. |
