Description
Summary:A great improvement in the performance of carbon filaments will be observe when coated with metallic coatings, wherein the resistance of the filaments lowers at about red heat than at higher temperatures. This assertions is first tested using an ordinary gasoline to treat a number of similar filaments. The gasoline filaments showed the same rise in resistance after passing the dull red temperature. The second part of the experiment relates to the conductivity of the vacuous space surrounding incandescent filaments, considered upon the `Edison effect' in incandescent lamps. Edison effect is the effect produced by currents which pass from one leg of an incandescent filament across the vacuous space to the other leg.
