Summary: | A retrospective look at the life & intellectual contributions of Daniel Judah Elazar (1934-1999). Elazar was influenced by his Jewish roots, his early years spent in the American Midwest, & his career as a scholar, writer, & thinker. Elazar's interest in federalism was a central component of his academic endeavors. His myriad writings on the subject, particularly those that developed the idea of the covenant, were influential in shaping American politics, especially during the Ronald Reagan presidency. Moreover, his breadth of knowledge & interests (spanning many historical periods, nations, & disciplines) frequently encouraged valuable cross-fertilization & cooperation between otherwise separated disciplines.
