Summary:Analysis of the formation of the EEG wave structure in children and adolescents (aged 7 to 18 years) living under the severe conditions of the North is reported. Temporal and frequency-related transformations of EEG patterns have been investigated using approaches developed in discrete mathematics (namely, graph theory and the theory of flows in networks). Conditional probabilities of mutual transitions between waves of six frequency bands of EEG (Δ, θ, α 1 , α 2 , β 1 , and β 2 ) have been evaluated. Sex and agerelated features of the structural organization and topical specificity of EEG patterns have been characterized. Age periods during which diffuse activity is reorganized to form the main EEG rhythms have been identified, and the role of individual rhythms in maintaining the structure of patterns and their dynamic rearrangements has been examined. The age-related changes in EEG patterns reflect the general process of morphofunctional brain development in children and adolescents during various stages of postnatal ontogenesis under the severe climatic and socioeconomic conditions of the North.
